Radio Sintesi (simultaneous translation)

2003

An original dance/theater piece by Adrienne Campbell-Holt and Oscar Olivo, opened as a work-in-progress in August 2003 with eight performance experiments and re-opened in October as an installation with moments of performance.

Performance Excerpts:
A young man paces and scribbles notes to himself. A woman gets hiccups, slows to pick up a stone, and they are gone. An alarm sounds. It is time for the foot-washing. The woman steps behind a curtain and only the milky silhouette of her form is visible. The man is tracing something with his index finger on a map on the wall. The visitors have arrived and each one has a different score, a different picture. An alarm sounds, the performance has already begun.

In this project nest director Adrienne Campbell-Holt and collaborator Oscar Olivo brought ‘visitors’ into moments of their lives that are both intimate and universal (birthdays, weddings, sickness, even the rehearsal process itself). The extraordinary becomes mundane and the mundane extraordinary. As the performer’s vulnerability was exposed through moments of intimacy and displacement, the viewer was invited in as an active participant in the intricate ebb and flow of memory, identity, and desire.
