Ballet Pequeño
Ballet Pequeño is a short dance film currently in pre-production.
Synopsis:
The film takes place in the backstage of a fantasy cirque/ballet just before the curtain goes up… A ballerina prepares for her entrance onstage just behind a red curtain. As the camera circles around her we become part of the world behind the stage.
Dancers hurry down the hallway, putting on shoes, warming up. This is a dance. The movement is a combination of pedestrian naturalistic movement and choreographed dance. Excitement. Nervous energy. The frantic business of a show about to begin.
Scenic elements slowly change via animation. Wall paper, a scene behind a window, a flower on a table….The story slowly starts to focus on one dancer preparing in her dressing room… a duet with a male dancer, which begins tenderly but takes an aggressive turn, leaving her alone. She makes her way back up the hallway towards the stage, changed.
Directed by Erica Rice, Choreographed by Adrienne Campbell-Holt, Animated by Pablo Calvillo with Cinematography by Brian Outland.
